The Birthday Cake

"What type of cake would you like me to make you for your birthday, Sebastian?"

As I asked this question this morning, I was aiming for an answer in the vicinity of 'chocolate please'. Thinking that my exceptionally ingenious idea to add smarties to the icing would rate me in his top ten favourite people of all time list. I could see the accolades now...

"A puppy cake!"

Er...right then, let me just take a few seconds to breathe and then work out a way to clear my jam-packed plan for the day. With this, I took off my much loved Personal Assistant hat and quite warily donned my Chef hat. Oh my!

And with that, I put on a load of washing, threw the kids and the puppy in the car, dropped the kids at school, dropped the puppy with the dog walker, collected the dry cleaning, sent a text to postpone the gardener, called the optometrist to confirm appointments and then made my way to the store.

And then, with all the ingredients set before me, I took a deep breath and began.

Once the sponge cakes were baked {and cooled} I was ready to go.

Icing

Then came the hard part...To make little blobs of icing actually look like puppies.

Honestly, this was the good one. You should have seen how the previous seventeen turned out.

The paw prints. Don't worry, I wasn't sure about these either, so I conducted a little survey mid decoration, and thankfully discovered that 7 out of 10 people actually thought that these looked like paw prints {without being prompted}

And then there was one little puppy sitting on a cake.

He looked so sad by himself so I had to make him a little friend.

And there you have it. This is what my day looked like today. Complete with flour in my hair, icing all over my clothes & that sickness you get from eating too many of the failed puppy attempts.

So Happy Birthday, darling Sebastian. Here is your puppy cake x

It's birthday week

I have had the most amazing birthday this year. Actually, forget about just celebrating the day, this little birthday girl is having the sweetest Birthday Week ever! I am somewhat new to this term 'birthday week' but I am rapidly becoming a fan of celebrating the whole week through. Some of my friends are even trying to extend the concept to Birthday Month, however despite my wishful thinking, I suspect that is taking it a little too far.

This week, my friends and family have gone over and above in their plight to show me some serious birthday love. I have been completely overwhelmed with gratitude to the point where I have been left speechless on many occasions {and most of you know that this is definitely no mean feat} I am so blessed to have such precious, sweet people in my world. You have truly made this birthday a week to remember.

So thankyou, a million times over.

Much love & loads of birthday kisses xx

Birthday Love

I don't know about you, but in my house, we love celebrating birthdays. We love everything there is about birthdays but probably the best thing about birthdays is that it's pretty much the only day that it's ok to eat cake before 7am.

Speaking of cake, this year we decided to enlist some help in this department. We had heard that a friend of ours, Heather Louise, had started making cute little cupcakes. They were honestly the sweetest cupcakes I have ever seen and by the looks of the empty box, pretty delicious as well.

So with our cupcakes all sorted, we decided that the run of the day should be a treasure hunt for the birthday girl to help her find all her presents.

By the end of the day, all presents were found and we had one very happy little birthday girl. I love how much fun it is to spoil someone else and I love that her beautiful smile was shining all day long.

We had so much fun that day. Actually, even the planning for the treasure hunt & sneaking around was super fun. We will all remember this day and it makes me realise that it doesn't take much to make someone's day special. I guess it's just a little bit of thought and a lot of love.

And now, to start thinking about the next birthday in the house... happy days xx
